Devon School of Yoga Foundation Course Enrolments now open for February 2025. Our Yoga Foundation Course offers a broad base of practices from which yoga students can enrich and develop their yoga life skills. It is aimed at yoga students who wish to deepen their practice, knowledge and experience of yoga and want to explore the subject in more detail. The course offers a broad base of practices enabling yoga students to enrich and develop their yoga skills. It consists of 70 taught hours and two comprehensive course manuals are provided. Our ten-day Yoga Foundation Course is taught over five monthly weekends, two of which are a Friday to Sunday full board residential, which is included in the course fee. Four days of the course are held at the Lotus Loft yoga studio in central Exeter (Saturdays and Sundays, 10 am – 5 pm), and the remaining days (including the residential weekends) are held at the Namaste Barn Yoga and Meditation Centre in Ideford near Chudleigh (non-residential days are 10am-5pm, and residential weekends are from 3pm on arrival day to 3pm on departure day). This course is also a prerequisite for our 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course (if the other requirements are not met). Peaceful and beautiful environments. Our weekend yoga training courses and retreats are in idyllic settings that are peaceful and perfect for learning and sharing yoga. Accommodation for the retreats is on-site, and we provide excellent plant-based food that is nourishing and freshly prepared by the School’s chef, Andrea. The Yoga studio is purpose-built and well-equipped, with underfloor heating and lots of natural light. Our teachers. You’ll benefit from the knowledge and expertise of our tutors, who combined, have a extensive range of experience in the study and teaching of yoga. They have trained with some of the world’s most highly respected teachers from a wide range of yoga schools and traditions. Each one of our teachers brings something unique to our foundation course. This eclectic mix of backgrounds and expertise creates an ideal environment for students to gain a broad-based introduction to the inspiring practice of yoga. Yoga Foundation Course areas of study include: Preliminary exercises Asanas – yoga postures Kriyas: exercises to cleanse and purify the internal organs and to strengthen the immune system using breath and bandha only Pranayama: breathing exercises to retain and extend the flow of vital energy Relaxation techniques Basic meditations Mudras and Bandhas: psychological processes acting on the nervous and subtle energy systems Introduction to Subtle Anatomy: Chakras, Koshas, Nadis, theoretical and practical understanding Basic Anatomy and Physiology Yoga Philosophy: Patanjali Yoga Sutra, Ashtanga (eight-fold path), Kleshas and introduction to classical texts Mantra: chanting sound vibrations Dietary guidelines: Ayurvedic and naturopathic approaches Two comprehensive course manuals provided Course Dates Autumn 2024. The Yoga Foundation Course totals 10 days spread over six weekends. 1-2 February 28 February – 2 March (Residential) 29-30 March 26-27 April 16-18 May (Residential) Course fees. The course fees total £1370 (payment options available – for this contact the office at info@devonyoga.com). This includes 10 days of tuition. Other than no absolute beginners, there are no prerequisites for the course beyond enthusiasm and commitment for self-growth and enhancing awareness. On completion of the course a certificate is awarded.

Postgraduate Yoga Therapy Course with the Devon School of Yoga This course started September 2024 - This course is extremely popular so please contact the Devon School of Yoga to register your interest for the next course starting in the Autumn of 2026. Our Yoga Therapy Course is a holistic approach for postgraduate teachers who wish to further develop their understanding of yoga as a method of therapy. The physical and mental benefits of yoga are widely recognised and this course explores the potential of yoga to improve health holistically. This yoga therapy course was created by the schools tutors who have vocational experience in health and therapy. These include NHS professionals in occupational health and psychological fields, anatomy, physiology and pathology – and complementary health practices. This 250 hour course includes 160 hours of tuition held over 25 days – during 12 weekends. One of the weekends is a Thursday to Sunday long weekend residential, based at the Namaste Barn. This venue is ideally located in the rolling countryside of Devon. It offers a peaceful environment – perfect for Yoga study and contemplation. The residentials are included in the course fee. Practical skills and knowledge. Key areas of study include: Holistic Yoga as a spiritual discipline; Yoga Therapy; Cautions and contra-indications; Mental and emotional health and illness; The pre and post-natal period; Regulatory and professional issues; Anatomy, physiology and pathology; Pain management; Practical use of subtle energetic models; Ayurveda practices; Bodywork including Shiatsu massage techniques. Students of the course will also develop a wide range of skills including analysis of individual health issues, identifying a yoga based therapy to suit specific problems, the planning of appropriate yoga practice and procedures for remedial therapy and the understanding of contra-indications. This course was designed with the ‘Skills for Health’ National Occupational Standards (NOS) in mind, as set by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). It is a 250hr postgraduate course. Graduates are able to practice yoga therapy and likewise be insured as yoga therapists. Benefits. Home study and practice are essential to make the most of this course. Course Dates. Please note, there are 12 weekends in total 25 days of tuition including three nights of full board accommodation over one long Thursday to Sunday weekend. (The residential weekend accounts for £390 from the above course fees and includes all meals and drinks from arrival on Thursday to departure on Sunday.) On successful completion of the course, including practical and theoretical course work, the DSY Yoga Therapy certificate is awarded. The qualification is recognised by Yoga Teachers Together and The Yoga Register with full insurance available to work as a yoga therapist. REGARDING POSSIBLE GOVERNMENT LOCKDOWNS Our priority and commitment are to deliver this course in person. If any weekend on the course is unable to run due to a possible government lockdown, it will be rescheduled. Any rescheduled weekend will be run with in-person teaching. There are no refunds of course fees for any necessary rescheduling. However, if we must cancel the course, refunds will be provided.

Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Course with the Devon School of Yoga Next Course Begins in the Spring of 2026 This 150 hour postgraduate advanced yoga teacher training course aims to inspire, empower and support qualified yoga teachers. Drawing from yogic and associated traditions it honours the uniqueness of the individual as both student and teacher of yoga. The course develops the intuition and confidence necessary to evolve your teaching skills. We provide the space to facilitate the deepening of personal practice, thereby inspiring yoga teaching. The course presents a ‘toolbox’ of yogic and associated practices to apply in personal practice and when teaching. Qualified, self-motivated yoga teachers from any tradition are invited to join the postgraduate advanced yoga teacher training course. This 150 hour yoga registered course includes 100 taught hours held over 15 days (and includes 2 residential weekends) plus 50 hours of home study and practice.
